1660 Boko Haram Insurgents Are In Their Last Days - Expert

Radical islamic insurgents, Boko Haram may be on their way out of Nigeria if recent reports are anything to go by.
Chigozie Ubani, a security expert, who made this disclosure Monday morning, noted that the radical terrorists are already a spent force and they are trying to make Nigerians scared of them with their recent attacks in the north-eastern part of the country. Boko Haram Insurgents Are In Their Last Days - Expert The devil in flesh: Abubakar Shekau, the alleged leader of Boko Haram, declared war on western values, but at the same time uses smartphones, designed in the West . Ubani, who was speaking during a television programme monitored in Lagos, said: “I am not surprised that Boko Haram is on a retreat, they are on their way out of Nigeria. What they are doing is just an action to make Nigerians think they are still relevant. “One thing government has not done is to go after those sponsoring the terrorists. Once they do that, their powers will be reduced. They should put restriction of movement on all the funds over the world. Government has to trace them and know how the funds come in from.” The security expert, while emphasising the need checkmate the radical group, insisted that create courts that can try the insurgents so that judgment can be passed on them without unnecessary delay. “I talked about how these guys bring in their vehicles. Who gets the vehicles? How do they buy them? The funds are traceable, trace them and put a check to how they get them. We can reduce their operation by about 40% by doing that.  “It is possible that their sponsors are within the country, but the bulk of them are outside. There’s nothing wrong with setting up courts to try these terrorists,” Ubani stated. Meanwhile, president Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the recent attacks by the insurgents and reiterated the fact that Boko Haram will not last in his administration.

US Supreme Court Legalizes Gay Marriage

The US Supreme Court has declared that same-s*x couples have a right to marry anywhere in the country, in a culmination of two decades of litigation over marriage, and gay rights generally. “No union is more profound than marriage,” wrote Justice Anthony Kennedy, joined by the court’s four more liberal justices on Friday. Al Jazeera reports: Gay and lesbian couples already could marry in 36 states and the District of Columbia. The court’s 5-4 ruling means the remaining 14 states, in the South and Midwest, will have to stop enforcing their bans on same-s*x marriage. President Barack Obama welcomed the decision on Twitter, calling it “a big step in our march toward equality”. Hundreds of activists gathered outside the Supreme Court building to celebrate the decision, chanting, “Love has won.” The crowd also raised a large flag with the pink equal sign that has come to symbolise the gay marriage movement. Some wept. Across the South and Midwest, gay couples rushed to marry at county clerk’s offices and judge’s chambers. “If you are among the many Americans – of whatever s*xual orientation – who favour expanding same-s*x marriage, by all means celebrate today’s decision,” Roberts said. “But do not celebrate the Constitution. It had nothing to do with it.”

The Best Places To Meet Women To Date

Meeting women that you would actually want to date and, maybe eventually, bring home to meet mom and dad, isn’t as hard as it sounds. There is, of course, the singles scene out in the bars and clubs all over town but I don’t recommend that one. It’s not that just bad girls go to bars; it’s that it is hard to tell the good ones from the bad one.

You meet women at work, too, but, there again, I don’t recommend dating them. The problem with that is that, if things don’t work out, you will still have to work together and the situation could be awkward to say the least.

Your friends know women that you haven’t met – sisters, cousins, etc. Ask them to introduce you to them. But, big brother, do avoid blind dates. Those things hardly ever work out and you can spend a lot of money for a very uncomfortable evening.

The best places to meet women that you might actually want to date are at clubs and organizations that you belong to. You will already have something in common with them and will have had the opportunity to see them interact with other people and that tells you a lot about a person. If you aren’t already involved with any clubs or organizations the, for heaven sakes, join some. Find ones that are all about something you are interested in. There are clubs and organizations that cover just about anything you can think of from astronomy to zoology and single women are involved in all of them.

Church is an excellent place to meet women. If there aren’t any single women in the church you go to now, visit other churches until you find one where there are single women. The church itself will provide you with an opportunity to get to know the woman before you ask her for a date. You will be a lot more comfortable and so will she.

Get involved in civic organizations. Women love men who are civic minded. They admire men who are willing to “give back”. And what about political campaigns? You will meet a lot of young women who are passionate about politics.

If all else fails, join a good online dating service. You will meet a lot of eligible women. You can read their profiles and see pictures of them. After you get to know one well enough to ask her for a face-to-face meeting, be sure that you plan the meeting during daylight hours and in a public place. Also take time to know her more offline before making any serious decisions.

Super Eagles Players Are Not Friends Off The PItch

Amanju Pinnick, president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has spoken on reasons the men’s senior national football team fails to perform to expectation.
Pinnick, who was speaking during a live programme monitored in Lagos this morning, revealed that the players are not friendly to each other off the pitch and this always rubs off when the players get into the field of play.

“I noticed that Nigerian players are not friends, so how will they pass the ball to each other?” he queried.
“There’s a level of indiscipline in the team, you can imagine what happened the other day. We conceded a penalty kick and you went ahead to hit another player, can you do that with your club? We did not get as much support as we got from Kaduna from other places.
“The comment by Enyeama also heightened security in the state. Every player called upon to play for Nigeria henceforth will be accompanied with a code of conduct.”
While commenting on the recent saga rocking Fifa, Pinnick noted that the situation is still under investigation and should not be discussed.

He, however, insisted that “Blatter promised to bring the world cup to Africa and he even did more than he promised for Africa
“Nobody can ignore Africa. There is an alliance between Africa and Europe and we come as an indivisible unit under Isa Hayatou. We have decided together, to tow a line and the support for Africa from Fifa can not wane. We are looking at who wants to come in and what benefits we can get from him.
“To us, all the scandals are subjective. There are investigations going on and they are ending in criminal charges.”

President Buhari to remove oil subsidy?

... President Buhari plans to totally remove fuel subsidy and use the proceeds for the provision of free and compulsory primary/secondary education across the country. The administration is also said to be working on unbundling the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, to make it more efficient in the production and delivery of products to Nigerians. These proposals form part of the strong recommendations made by the transition committee raised by Buhari to work out a blueprint for his administration. Asked if the proposal for total subsidy removal had been discussed with labour, the source said that members of organized labour in the country were consulted by the committee and they made presentations on what should be done over the matter. The source said: “ Labour is part of the decision; they have accepted the proposal of fuel subsidy removal. “A committee is likely to be set up by the federal government to work out the modalities of what is to be done in that respect. “But the truth is that total removal of fuel subsidy has been recommended with adequate provisions for palliatives on free education and social welfare for the unemployed”, a member of the transition committee said. The source pointed out that unlike in the past, the Buhari administration is considering the provision of free meals for students to serve as incentives for them to enroll in school. Just In: Buhari Moves Into Aso Rock

News just reaching us informs that President Muhammadu Buhari has finally moved into his official residence in the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Just In: Buhari Moves Into Aso Rock President Buhari moving into Aso Rock According to the Nation, Buhari moved in on Sunday evening. Buhari and the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo have been living outside the Villa and used the Defence House, Abuja as their offices since their inauguration three weeks ago as the official residence was being renovated. Meanwhile, first lady, Aisha Buhari had moved into the official residence since last Thursday. READ ALSO: Nigeria’s Economy Nearly Collapsed Under Jonathan – Transition Committee Buhari, returned to Abuja from Katsina State where he went to inspect his farm on Saturday. He supposedly began moving his properties to the seat of power on Sunday evening. There had been much speculation on why the new president did not move to the Aso Rock. Rumours suggested that “a spiritual cleansing” was being carrid out. However, presidential spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu debunked those claims saying: “As far as the president is concerned, the place (his official residence) is not ready yet. Workers are cleaning and refurbishing the place. Once the exercise is completed, the president will move in.”

Civil Servants To Declare War Against FG

The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has vowed to wage war against the new administration of President Muhammadu Buhari if it decides to cut the salaries of civil servants in a bid to reduce the cost of governance.

ASCSN according to Vanguard,  in a statement yesterday, June 20, by its national president and secretary-general, Comrade Bobboi Bala Kaigama and Comrade Alade Bashir Lawal respectively, warned that the association will view any attempt by the federal government to slash the salaries of workers as an invitation to war.

The association decried the fact that several states of the federation were still owing civil servants bulk of monthly salaries and other benefits amid the expectations that they come to work, and take care of their family responsibilities.
The inability of states governors to pay the salaries of their workers has in time past caused disagreement between the federal and state government.
Ex- minister of finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in May, blamed the state governors for their inability to pay salaries, noting they were told through the federation accounts allocation committee to make the issue of wage a priority.

Some state governors however reacted angrily to the accusations by Okonjo-Iweala, accusing her of being economical with the truth.

Church Holds First Service After Shooting

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Members of a historic black church returned to their sanctuary Sunday, perhaps united like never before, and will hear a sermon of recovery and healing, a message that will no doubt reverberate throughout the country.
Sunday morning will mark the first worship service at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church since Dylann Roof, 21, sat among a Bible study group and opened fire after saying that he targeted them because they were black, authorities said. Among the nine killed was the church pastor, the Rev. Clementa Pinckney, who was also a state senator.
Events to show solidarity are planned throughout the city and beyond, including the synchronized ringing of church bells at 10 a.m. EDT. South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and her family were to attend the service at Emanuel.
Despite grim circumstances the congregation has been faced with, the welcoming spirit Roof exploited before the shooting is still alive, church members said.
Harold Washington, 75, expects the sanctuary to host even more newcomers after one shattered the group's sense of peace and security.
"We're gonna have people come by that we've never seen before and will probably never see again, and that's OK," he said Saturday. "It's a church of the Lord, you don't turn nobody down."
Church leaders will try to address the heavy psychological burdens parishioners bring with them. An hour before the 9:30 a.m. EDT service, people lined up outside the church.
"I think just because of what people have gone through emotions are definitely heightened, not just in Charleston but with anyone going to church because it is such a sacred place, it is such a safe place," Shae Edros, 29, said after a multiracial group of women sang "Amazing Grace" outside the church Saturday afternoon.
"To have something like that completely shattered by such evil — I think it will be in the back of everyone's heads, really," Erdos said. Erdos was planning on attending Sunday service in nearby Mount Pleasant.
The suburb is connected to Charleston by the Arthur Ravenel Bridge, where people are expected to join hands in solidarity Sunday evening. The bridge's namesake is a former state lawmaker and a vocal Confederate flag supporter.
Roof had been photographed with the flag several times before the shooting.
Unity Church of Charleston the Rev. Ed Kosak said delivering Sunday morning's sermon would be emotionally taxing but he felt empowered by the strength and grace Emanuel members have shown — a demeanor he said has set the tone for religious leaders everywhere.
"I've gone into Sunday sermons before like when Virginia Tech happened, and when the Sikh shootings happened" Kosak said. The situation in Charleston may be harder to give a sermon on because it hits so close to home. But, Kosak said, "I am more ready than ever to speak to this tragedy in ways I didn't think I could before."
For the family of Cynthia Hurd, Sunday's service will be especially poignant. Hurd, a longtime librarian, would have been celebrating her 55th birthday and was planning a trip to Virginia with her siblings.
"Sunday will not be a sad day for me; it will be a celebration for me. It will be a celebration for our family because our faith is being tested," Hurd's younger brother Malcolm Graham said Friday. "She was in the company of God trying to help somebody out. She was where she needed to be."
Felicia Breeland, an 81-year-old lifelong Emanuel member, said she sang in the choir with Susie Jackson, 87, who was also fatally shot Wednesday.
"It's going to be sad. She sits right on the front row, too," Breeland said. "She had a very soft soprano voice. It was beautiful."
Washington said he expected a tearful, emotionally charged gathering.
"I hope we'll be much stronger. I think we will because it brings people together. For how long? I'm not sure. But at least for right now we're very well galvanized," he said. "We didn't miss a Sunday."

Why Jonathan Conceded Defeat - Tsav Tells Buhari

Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, former Lagos state police commissioner, explained why in his opinion the immediate past leader of the country did not deserve to be praised over having conceded defeat.
Why Jonathan Conceded Defeat - Tsav Tells Buhari
Alhaji Abubakar Tsav

Speaking with The Tribune, Tsav said that in reality Goodluck Jonathan conceded defeat out of fear of being hunted by the new administration over his “his mismanagement in office”.
“He (president Jonathan) knew that if he dared to cause anything that could have triggered crisis, he knew that he was not safe. As for me, I do not see him as a hero as some people have made him to be.”
The recently appointed commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission also urged the incumbent to learn from Jonathan’s mistakes and not to allow the politicians around him to tarnish his reputations.

Tsav expressed confidence that most of the modern politicians are “self-centered and money-seeking lots”.
“My advise to the president is that he should keep to his words, ‘I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody’. He should not allow those with shady character to mislead him and he should remember that if he fails, he would be the one to bear the brunt.”

Recall that earlier this year, before the presidential election, Tsav mocked GEJ over his claims that Nigerians would miss him only when he left. He characterized the statement as “mere hallucination and wishful thinking”.
After the polls, which brought victory to Buhari, Jonathan conceded defeat before the final results were announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Key figures in the Nigerian and global politics commended the outgoing president for the move noting that he truly ensured democratic elections in the country.

une 21, 2015
communal-clash-cartoon_358180653-300x242Two suspected cultists were killed while 10 others sustained injuries, when two rival cult groups clashed at Nkpor community, near Onitsha, Anambra State,  on Saturday.
Divisional Police Officer in-charge of Ogidi Divisional Police Headquarters, Mr. Hassan Musa, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with newsmen.
Musa said before the joint team of the Mobile policemen and the Police Anti-Cult Squad could reach the scene along the Nkpor-Obosi Road, two unidentified people were already killed.
He, however, said the bodies of the deceased were taken away by their cult members to avoid identification and possible trace by the police, saying the police was investigating the incident.
An official of the Department of State Services, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the bloody clash occurred between the Aiye confraternity and their Akpa rival.

“However, those whose members were killed ensured that they took their corpses away before the arrival of the Police Anti-cult Squad and Mobile police”, he said.

Those Calling For Ekweremadu’s Resignation Are Enemies Of Ndigbo – WIC

Posted by: daniel June 20, 2015 Ike EkweremaduThe World Igbo Congress, WIC, a global network of Ndigbo, has congratulated the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu on his re-election into office, declaring that “anyone asking him to resign his position is an enemy of the Igbo people”. Some aggrieved All Progressives Congress, APC, Senators had called for his resignation arguing that he was not properly elected. In a statement signed by the Secretary-General of the WIC, Dr. Agatha Anosike and the Media Director, Dr. Acho Orabuchi, the WIC under the leadership of Joe Nze Eto, congratulated Senator Ekweremadu and all the Governors of Enugu, Imo, Abia, Delta, Ebonyi, and Rivers States on their successful election and inauguration. It, however, urged them to brace up for the implementation of their campaign promises in order to improve the quality of life of their people. Continuing, the WIC said: “We congratulate Dr. Ike Ekweremadu for his selfless service to the country, as well as his unparalleled leadership in the Senate and ECOWAS. We are strongly behind him and will do everything to support him in office”. The body pointed out that the current dicey economic status of the nation and the slippery slopes for the South-East geopolitical zone in Nigeria’s political terrain call for immediate, strategic, all hands on deck, team approach by the leaders of the zone towards its transformation.

Glo drops Naeto C, Lynxx as brand ambassadors, signs Wizkid yesterday

Glo drops Naeto C, Lynxxx as brand ambassadors, signs Wizkid Yesterday, MTN announced that they had dropped Wizkid, Timaya and Sean Tizzle, D'Prince as their brand ambassadors. But according to what I gathered, Wizkid actually moved to Globacom 4 weeks ago after complaining that MTN was delaying payment and mostly because Glo offered him more to be their ambassador. He signed a 2-year deal with Glo said to be over N100million. Rappers Naeto C and Lynxxx have been dropped by the telecoms giant. Some ambassadors were dropped because Glo wanted to bring in more guys so they needed to decongest. I hear comedian Bovi, Yoruba actor Odunlade Adekola and actor OC Ukeje have also joined Glo.

93 4895 2014 Report On Terrorism: Nigerian Judiciary Under Fire

The US Department of State presented a new report on global terrorism on Friday, June 19, 2015. The latest 388-page document focuses on the countries most affected by terrorism and contains several crucial inputs about Nigeria and its war against the Boko Haram sect. According to the report, “the Nigerian government’s criminal justice institutions were not significantly strengthened in 2014, although several donor countries, including the UK, worked closely with the Ministry of Justice to assist in prioritizing how to investigate and prosecute suspected terrorism cases.” There have been more problems listed, with the Nigerian judiciary coming under heavy criticism: – a lack of coordination and cooperation between the Nigerian security agencies; – a lack of biometrics collection systems and the requisite data bases; – corruption; – misallocation of resources; – the slow pace of the judicial system, including a lack of a timely arraignment of suspected terrorist detainees; – lack of sufficient training for prosecutors and judges to understand and carry out the Terrorism (Prevention) Act of 2011 (as amended). The study indicates that the “Nigerian government’s efforts to address grievances among Northern populations, which include high unemployment and a dearth of basic services, made little progress. Some state governments in the North attempted to increase education and employment opportunities, with little support from the federal government.” The report recommends the Buhari administration “to employ a more comprehensive strategy to address Boko Haram that combines security efforts with political and development efforts to reduce Boko Haram’s appeal, address legitimate concerns of the people of northern Nigeria, and protect the rights of all of Nigeria’s citizens.” It would be note that the Nigerian Army confirmed that 504 people were in its custody in connection with the Islamist Boko Haram sect. Out of them, 350 suspected terrorists have been recommended for trial at a Federal Court for terrorist activities in the North East.

Gov Aregbesola Attacks Ben Bruce For Donating Wardrobe Allowance

Osun state governor, Rauf Aregbesola has flayed Senator Ben Murray Bruce for offering to donate his wardrobe allowance to workers in Osun state who are owed 8 months salaries.
81e23163e266e9617111360d0a892410_L
The senator representing Bayelsa central senatorial district took to twitter on Wednesday, June 17, to announce that upon receiving his wardrobe allowance, he will divide it into two portions, donating half to the Osun state workers and the other half to the head of widows association in his community.

However, the good gesture by Murray Bruce has attracted the ire of the Osun state governor who accused the Senator of taking advantage of the plight of the Osun state workers to score cheap political points.
In a statement made available to Premium Times, the governor through the his spokesman, Semiu Okanlawon, on Wednesday, the governor faulted Senator Bruce for turning the plight of Nigerian workers to a thing of entertainment.
He blamed the inability of several states of the federation to pay their workers salaries on the past administration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He urged on the Senator to rather call for the reduction of the jumbo allowances accrued to the lawmakers rather than engaging in self-serving philanthropy.
See the full statement below
Why is Senator Murray-Bruce mocking Nigerian workers?
My attention has been drawn to a tweet by a member of Upper chamber of the National Assembly Senator Ben Murray Bruce of the Peoples Democratic Party from Bayelsa saying he will not reject the alleged hefty pay for members of the National Assembly but collect it and donate to Osun workers.

It is saddening and tragic that Mr. Murray Bruce whom many had accorded a lot of respect is too early in the day joining the fray of politicisation and trivialising the salary issue affecting more than half of the stars of the federation in this ridiculous manner.
While Nigerians are in hot debate over the alleged jumbo pay and the mood of the country Murray Bruce seems to have turned the plight of Nigerian workers to a thing of an entertainment.
Of all the states in the federation who are battling to pay salaries as a result of the precarious economic situation his party the PDP threw Nigeria into why is it that it is Osun he wants to take his pay to? This is certainly playing to the gallery and nothing but a mockery in the faces of Nigerian workers and not only of Osun extraction. It is not only wicked but ungodly to play politics with the suffering of the people.
If the Senator’s conscience tells him his pay is too high especially in the face of the prevailing economic predicament of Nigeria the most honourable thing to do is to lead a protest for reduction and not a self serving philanthropy only in the direction of Osun workers.

Several Nigerians have reacted angrily to the news that the members of the 8th National Assembly (NASS) have allocated a N9billion as wardrobe allowance for its 469 lawmakers.

Nine Killed In South Carolina ‘Hate Crime’ Shooting

An unknown gunman has killed at least nine people at a historic African-American church in the US city of Charleston, in what police called a hate crime. Reports on Thursday said police found eight bodies inside the church. Two other victims were rushed to the hospital, where one of the injured died. Aljazeera has more:
Charleston Mayor Joe Riley called the shooting “an unspeakable and heartbreaking tragedy”. “We will make sure that this person will pay for this act.” The suspect was described as a 21-year-old white man wearing a sweatshirt, jeans and boots, Charleston police said in a message on Twitter.
“I do believe that this is a hate crime,” Gregory Mullen, police chief of Charleston, told reporters.  “This is a situation, which is unacceptable in our society. We will catch this individual.” Charleston Police Department spokesman Charles Francis said the shooting occurred at the Emanuel AME Church around 01:00 GMT. He had no information on victims.
Al Jazeera’s John Terrett, reporting from the US capital Washington DC, said church pastor Clementa Pinckney, who is also a state senator, reportedly was among the dead. Officials did not immediately release the names or any details of the victims.

Arson Guts Israeli Church Where ‘Jesus Fed 5,000′

1a93f016e1c24403befe75991e4a6002_18 (1)
An arson attack has gutted part of the church at the site where Christians believe Jesus performed a miracle by feeding 5,000 people with five loaves of bread and two fish on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, the Israeli fire brigade said. Aljazeera reports:
A verse from a Hebrew prayer denouncing the worship of “false gods” was spray-painted in red on a church wall, suggesting Jewish activists were responsible. Sixteen Jewish minors from settlements in the West Bank were arrested in relation to Thursday morning’s arson attack, but were later released without charge, Israeli police told Al Jazeera.
A spokesman for the fire brigade said a preliminary investigation showed the blaze broke out in several places inside the church, evidence that it was started deliberately. The limestone Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes, on the northwest shore of the Sea of Galilee, was constructed in the 1980s and is overseen by the Benedictine Order.
It was built on the site of 4th and 5th century churches that commemorated what Christian faithful revere as Jesus’ miraculous feeding of 5,000 people with five loaves of bread and two fish.

Former American Wrestler Dusty Rhodes Dies

They called Dusty Rhodes “The American Dream,” because that’s what he embodied. Born the son of a plumber in Austin, Texas, he wasn’t meant to grow up to be a WWE Hall of Famer, a three-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion or a hero to people the world over, but the blue-eyed boy named Virgil Runnels had conviction. “Get a dream, hold onto it and shoot for the sky,” he’d say years later, and you knew he meant every word of it.
View these photos from the extraordinary life and career of The American Dream
Rhodes began his ring career in the late 1960s as a villain, teaming with Dick Murdoch as the treacherous Texas Outlaws. He continued to break the rules until a defining moment in Florida in 1974 when he turned on his devious associates Pak Song and Gary Hart and became a working-class hero known as “The American Dream.”
From Atlanta to New York City, crowds lined up to see Rhodes wiggle his behind and deliver his Bionic Elbow to rivals like Harley Race, Ernie Ladd and “Superstar” Billy Graham. Dusty never had the prototypical pro wrestler physique (“My belly’s just a little big,” he famously declared, “but, brother, I am bad.”), yet his ability to connect with audiences was singular. He had a TV preacher’s knack for communicating his rags-to-riches story, a skill which was summed up in his most famous line: “I have wined and dined with kings and queens, and I’ve slept in alleys and dined on pork and beans.”
Read: The sports-entertainment world reacts to Rhodes' passing
With his gutsy performances and electric charisma, this common man fought his way to the top of the NWA where he waged a brutal and lengthy war against the legendary Four Horseman while capturing the distinguished NWA World Heavyweight Title on three separate occasions. He also became a creative force behind the scenes, conjuring up inventive bouts like WCW’s oft-imitated War Games: The Match Beyond.
When Rhodes came to WWE in 1990, he introduced WWE fans to his son, Dustin — a 6-foot-6 stallion who later redefined sports-entertainment under the outlandish guise of Goldust. More than a decade later, Dusty did the same thing when he brought the preternaturally talented Cody Rhodes into the ring. His sons were more than capable of carrying on the Rhodes family legacy, but The Dream could still rumble in the ring even in his 60s. He proved that four decades into his career when he squared off against Randy Orton at Great American Bash in 2007 — the same year he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

It would be difficult to overstate how much Dusty Rhodes meant to the working-class people who sat down to watch television and saw one of their own staring back at them. To the millions of Americans struggling to make ends meet, Dusty was more than just an athlete or an entertainer — he was living proof that “The American Dream” was real. May this be a dream that goes on forever.

CBN tells banks to establish fraud desks

CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele
the Central Bank of Nigeria has directed Deposit Money Banks to maintain dedicated fraud desks in order to stem frauds within the banking industry.
The CBN said in a circular that it had established the Nigeria Electronic Fraud Forum to proffer solutions to the issue of frauds arising from the increased adoption of electronic payments.
The Director, Banking and Payments Systems Department, CBN, Mr. Dipo Fatokun, said following submissions to the bank by the NeFF and consultation with banks and electronic payments service providers, it had become imperative that an effective mechanism for receiving and responding promptly to fraud alerts be set up in the banking industry towards managing and reducing successful electronic payments fraud rates.
Fatokun said, “To this end, all DMBs, MMOs, switches and all payment service providers are hereby directed to maintain a dedicated fraud desk in their respective organisations. “The fraud desk shall be appropriately staffed with personnel that have requisite training on emerging fraud trends on various electronic payments channels.”
The circular stated that the desk would provide support to customers on electronic frauds, with a minimum of 10 dedicated phone lines manned and available at all times.
The desk is also expected to log on all customer fraud alerts and complaints, and redirect them to the appropriate authorities in line with internally pre-defined path, while preparing and submitting reports regularly to the Nigeria Inter-bank Settlement System on fraud information.
The desk is expected to sensitise customers on e-fraud and fraud desk services as well as manage/resolve all intra-bank issues by leveraging on enterprise fraud management system.

“Banks shall implement across all electronic channels an enterprise fraud monitoring system, which ensures behavioural monitoring, patterns and hold/block controls on transactions suspected to be fraudulent.
“The provisions of this circular shall take effect from July 1, 2015, and failure to comply shall attract appropriate sanctions,” the CBN said.
Under the new arrangement, the NIBSS will be responsible for coordinating the industry as the provider of electronic platform for all the fraud desks across all banks, mobile money operators, switches and payments service providers to log frauds.
The NIBSS will also maintain direct and dedicated lines as well as email contacts of all stakeholders for the purpose of exchanging information and coordinating industry response to fraud attempts and incidents.
It will also ensure that the DMBs receive enhanced e-fraud portal/instant payment platform, with capabilities for banks to initiate ‘block’ and ‘hold funds’ electronic messages from a bank’s fraud desk to the other, while providing operational rules for effective fraud desk coordination.
Under the new arrangement, interbank transactions on all electronic channels are expected to be passed through the central anti-fraud solution in the NIBSS, which will have access to each bank’s record of fraudulent transactions and provide monthly reports to the CBN.

China Bans Ramadan Fasting In Muslim Region

Civil servants, students and teachers in China’s Muslim northwest have been ordered to avoid traditional fasting during a holy month of Ramadan that started on June 18, Thursday.
Al Jazeera reports that China’s ruling Communist party is officially atheist, therefore, it has restricted the fasting in Xinjiang, home to the mostly Muslim Uighur minority.
According to statements posted on websites of schools, government agencies and local party organizations in the region, the ban was aimed at protecting students’ wellbeing and preventing use of schools and government offices to promote religion.
“No teacher can participate in religious activities, instill religious thoughts in students or coerce students into religious activities,”  the statement read.
It would be noted that the authorities’ restriction has received widespread criticism.
Uighur rights groups noted that China’s restrictions on Islam have added to ethnic tensions in the region, where clashes have already killed hundreds in recent years.

China’s authorities stress that the country faces a “terrorist threat” in Xinjiang and blame “religious extremism” for the growing violence.
“China’s goal in prohibiting fasting is to forcibly move Uighurs away from their Muslim culture during Ramadan.
“Policies that prohibit religious fasting is a provocation and will only lead to instability and conflict,” said Dilxat Rexit, a spokesman of the World Uyghur Congress.
As in previous years, teachers were ordered to talk to students and explain that “during Ramadan, ethnic minority students do not fast, do not enter mosques … and do not attend religious activities”.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a congratulatory message to Muslims, calling on them to pray for the return of peace, love and prosperity throughout the country.

“Food items including rice, beans, millet, flour, cooking oil among others have been provided at each of the centres.
“Each centre will have a five-man coordinating committee in addition to six cooks who will be preparing the meal,”  he noted.

He said that the government had also also engaged the services of some sanitary inspectors whose job will be to always ensure that the environment is kept clean and tidy.

Talking about how the food would be distributed evenly, Bala informed the press that after the meals were prepared, they would be distributed to all the designated feeding centres in polythene bags that has been specially designed for the scheme.
He urged the workers and committee members to exhibit a high sense of honesty and commitment in order to ensure that the programme would be  a success.
Bala said the government had placed those handling the programme on allowance, and warned that anybody found wanting would be decisively dealt with.
“The programme is aimed at assisting the less privileged during the Ramadan period. So we hope they will keep to the tenets of the programme,”  he concluded. In a related development civil servants, students and teachers in China’s Muslim northwest have been ordered to avoid traditional fasting during a holy month of Ramadan that started on June 18, Thursday.

Boko Haram: U.S Donates $5billion To MNJTF

As the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) created to combat terrorist group, Boko Haram intensifies its efforts at tackling the terrorists, the United States has donated the sum of $5 billion to boost their operations.
The disclosure was made by Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the US assistant secretary, Bureau of African Affairs, at a news briefing via telephone from the African Union Summit today, NAN reports.

She said, “We have been working with Nigeria as well as the African countries innovation to address their concerns about Boko Haram because we don’t see this as just a Nigerian problem, we are having discussions with President Buhari on how we might bolster our support. We have already been working with them and providing information.  We are providing some training and support and we’ll love to work with the new administration to see how we might increase the level of support to Nigeria.
“At the same time, we’ve just announced at the venue of the AU, a five billion dollar contribution to the Multinational Task Force. We are also providing some equipment and support and we have a number of meetings with the countries who are members of the Multinational Joint Task Force to look at other areas we might support. Africa had faced some really horrendous terrorist attacks over the past two years,  the West Gate and Garissa University attacks in Kenya and Boko Haram attacks, particularly the kidnapping of the Chibok girls, in Borno state.
“While I would not say Africa is under siege, Africa has some major security challenges that require a very strong and very concerted strategic effort by African countries and partners to address the security concerns of Africa,” she continued.
She revealed that the U.S has trained 250,000 African peacekeepers, and expressed its highest commitment to security on the African continent.
She also expressed support for the warrant of arrest issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Sudan’s President Omar Al-Bashir.
“The United States frowns at plans by some African leaders to subvert the constitution to extend their terms in office. US only supports two-term limit in office,” she concluded.

In a similar vein, President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the release of $21million, out of the $100million pledge, to the Multinational Joint Task Force.

How OBJ Secretly Repatriated 13,000 Women From Italy

Dr. Patrick Dele Cole, a former aide of Olusegun Obasanjo, has made a damming revelation about some activities of the former president of Nigeria.
The one time special adviser to the Ogun state-born politician disclosed that the then Nigerian president sevretly repatriated 13, 000 women from Italy over cases of illegal immigration.

Vanguard quoted Cole to have said that the women were brought back to the country secretly to avoid embarrassment by family members and the public, while also blaming host countries for not firming up their protocols over immigration policies.
He said: “there are three United Nations Protocols on Human Trafficking and Treatment of Refugees. There is little problem with the first one, except the provision that a refugee must seek asylum at the first port of call. Many countries deliberately flout the second protocol – treatment of refugees.
“But people are exposed to danger in crossing the Sahara. Bedouin or Surwa Arabs or Puel’s tribes are the middlemen: the starting price for the journey is US$5,000 – then the price goes up to US$10,000 and possibly the sale of human body parts – Kidney, liver, cornea, then the would-be refugee is left to die.

“Women start the journey to Libya from Eritrea, Somalia, Nigeria, Ghana, etc with US$5,000. One set of traffickers then hand over these people to another set of traffickers who demand double. If the would-be refugee is a woman, she is sold into slavery or used as a prostitute until the debt is discharged”.
“Then, on to a boat, another set of traffickers take over the helpless woman to prostitute for the same journey, which takes 6-10 years of stop and go. In 1999 – 2010, the Obasanjo administration repatriated 13,000 women from Italy. This was done quietly to avoid shame to the families”.
While advising Nigerians against illegal immigration, Dr. Cole also asked host countries to ensure they are strict with their protocols for allowing people in, adding: “protocols should be awakened, institutions built – robust campaign in the home countries must be carried out”.
Just over a month ago, a pregnant Nigerian woman was among those rescued by the Italian government after she had reportedly fled the northern part of Nigeria over incessant boko haram attacks.

FG bans paramilitary agencies from use of camouflage uniforms; restricts use to only the military

Press statement from Defence Headquarters below...
The use of camouflage uniforms by various security agencies other than the Armed Forces namely; Army, Navy and the Air Force has been banned. The Nigerian Police will however use the uniform when in Joint Operation with the military or on special operation such as specific anti-riot missions. This followed the directive of the National Security Council, as it approved the recommendations of a committee on measures to streamline the use of camouflage uniforms, in view of the security implications and concerns raised on the clamour, duplicity and proliferation of camouflage uniforms in the country.
The use of camouflage/fatigue is therefore restricted to the military and for occasional use by the police henceforth. The directive also stipulates that the military is to adopt only 2 types of camouflage for the 3 arms of the Armed Forces. All para-military agencies using various camouflage/fatigues uniforms have up to January 2016 to withdraw such materials currently in their inventory.

With this development, the Ministry of Justice along with law enforcement agencies have been tasked to ensure that extant laws guiding the use of uniforms in Nigeria are strictly enforced. In the same vein, the Office of the National Security Adviser has been vested with the authority to vet and clear any production and supply of camouflage uniforms in Nigeria.

The proliferation and imitation by criminals and impostors using uniforms especially the camouflage have been generating some concern in national security circles. The development has been communicated to all the agencies by the Office of the National Security Adviser.

Arctic lampreys spawn in the Chena River, and live in the mud underwater as juveniles for several years, many lifelong Alaskans have never seen one of these fascinating fish up close because their body shape and feeding habits make them difficult to catch.”

The Arctic lamprey is usually about 13 to 32 centimetres but specimens have been known to reach 63 centimetres and 200 grams in weight. The adult is generally a parasitic feeder that attaches to other fish species and sucks its blood and other bodily fluids. What is even more interesting is that lamprey is a commercially important edible fish with fatty flesh, it’s a seasonal delicacy in Alaska.
