SAD! 9 Catholics Perish In Ghastly Auto Crash

On Friday,November 27 around 7 o’clock in the evening, 9 Catholics, who were members of the Catholic Women Organisation were killed when their bus had collision with a tipper. 
The women were on their way back from a burial ceremony at Orumba local government area of Anambra state, with 11 other people sustaining various degrees of serious injuries.

In matters related to accidents on Nigerian roads, the Federal Road Safety Corps on Sunday, November 15, attributed most accidents to speeding and violation of other traffic rules.

The ugly incident occurred before Ajalli police station along Ekwulobia road with the deceased in their 18-seater bus.
An anonymous eyewitness who spoke to newsmen stated that the driver of the tipper vehicle was possibly drunk before he ran into the bus bringing the 9 Catholics back from Nanka, the hometown of the Catholic Bishop of Awka, Most Revd Paulinis Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor.
Findings indicated that while 6 of the women died immediately, the remaining 3 later died in the hospital. Out of those that sustained injuries, 10 were taken to an unnamed hospital. Two others with more serious injuries were moved to Nnamdi Azikiwe Univer­sity Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Anambra state.
The names of the deceased were: Mrs Su­san Okafor, mother of Sr. Jane Francis Okafor, Mother-General of Sisters of Jesus The Saviour Ele­le, Rivers State; Mrs Alice Nwankwo Igbidi; Mrs Christiana Iloh; Mrs Cath­erine Okafor Agu; Mrs Veronica Ezibe; Mrs Rose Ogbunankwo, Secretary of the parish council; Mrs Therese Okoligan; Mrs Fredrick Ezeonwu and Mr Samuel Offormata known as Ashanti, who drove the bus involved in the accident.
