James Bond Girls - Then And Now
Also known as 007, James Bond movies is characterized mainly with guns and girls. Check out the photos of girls who featured in the movies how they look today.
Your DailyDish
In Fall 2015, James Bond will once again grace the big screen in the 24th Bond film in the franchise, Spectre.
As popular as the character is, perhaps what grabs more headlines when a
new Bond film is announced is who will be the newest Bond girl?
Through
24 films, the Bond series has introduced the world to dozens of women,
many of them relatively unknown before their turn in the Bond franchise.
And many times, that role provides a huge break in the actress' career
that often leads to greater fame. Do you remember these famous Bond
girls? Tell us which ones were your favorites in the comments below.
EUNICE GAYSON
Your DailyDish
Eunice Gayson was the Bond girl who started it all. She starred in the first two Bond films from 1962 and '63,Dr. No and From Russia With Love, respectively.
Gayson
was originally to play the role of Miss Moneypenny, but ended up
playing Sylvia Trench, Bond's first film crush. The studio floated the
idea to allow Gayson to play a recurring role in the series, but they
eventually nixed that idea. Still, she'll always be known as our first
Bond girl.
URSULA ANDRESS
Your DailyDish
Another of the original Bond Girls,
Andress helped immortalize the roles with her scene-stealing ocean
appearance that would decades later be cleverly nodded to by Halle Berry
in Die Another Day.
DANIELA BIANCHI
Your DailyDish
Bianchi, born in Italy, was a model
and the first runner-up in the 1960 Miss Universe pageant, which helped
land her several film roles in both Italy and France.
But her big break came when Bianchi landed the role of Tatiana Romanova in From Russia with Love,
alongside fellow Bond girl Eunice Gayson. Bianchi continued to work in
film after Bond, but the film remains her most prominent role.
SHIRLEY EATON
Your DailyDish
Shirley Eaton had been an accomplished
actress prior to landing a role in the Bond series, and continued to
work in film to late 1969.
Eaton had only a brief appearance in a
Bond movie, but it was perhaps one of the most memorable. Eaton appeared
as the woman painted all in gold in what many consider one of the best
Bond films, Goldfinger. The iconic scene was so popular LIFE magazine used Eaton on its cover for the November 1964 issue.
HONOR BLACKMAN
Your DailyDish
Blackman made her big screen debut in 1947 with the film Fame is the Spur and continued to land roles in film and TV, most notably in Jason and the Argonauts and the British TV series, The Avengers. Her role in The Avengers helped land her one of the most iconic Bond girl roles in the film series.
Joining the cast of Goldfinger,
the third Bond film, Blackman played the role of Pussy Galore (man,
that's a cringe-worthy name in this day and age), which continues to be
one of the most recognizable in the entire film series.
CLAUDINE AUGER
Your DailyDish
French actress Claudine Auger started
her career as a model, earning the Miss France Monde title and as first
runner-up in the 1958 Miss World competition before moving into some
minor film roles, which helped put her on the radar for 1965's Bond
flick, Thunderball as Dominique "Domino" Derval.
Auger would continue to star in many film roles after Bond up through the 1990's.
LUCIANA PALUZZI
Your DailyDish
Paluzzi was born in Rome, Italy, in 1937,
an dissimilar to many women on this list, Paluzzi had an immense resume
before landing a role Fiona Volpe in 1965's Thunderball. Though never starring in another huge blockbuster, Paluzzi would continue to act well into the 1980's.
AKIKO WAKABAYASHI
Your DailyDish
She was a relative unknown actress in
Japan through the 1950's and '60s, but Akiko Wakabayashi (say that three
times fast! Go! We'll wait...) got a breakthrough role in the 1962
film, King Kong vs. Godzilla.
Akiko was then cast in a minor role for You Only Live Twice,
but her acting skills proved better than the producers anticipated and
she was offered a larger role, that of Aki, the first non-European Bond
girl in the series. Though the role was successful, Wakabayashi would
retire after her big Bond role.
DIANA RIGG
Your DailyDish
Diana Rigg is another connection of the James Bond series with the original British TV version of The Avengers,
holding the starring role of Emma Peel from 1965 to 1968. Along with
that role, Rigg had a wildly successful career in film prior to her
James Bond role.
In 1969, Rigg was cast as Countess Teresa di Vicenzo, Bond's wife in On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
And in case you're wondering what she's up to these days, Rigg is still
in high acting form and you can see her on the hit HBO series, Game of Thrones as Olenna Tyrell.
LANA WOOD
Your DailyDish
Lana Wood is the younger sister of
famed film actress Natalie Wood, who died under mysterious circumstances
at the height of her career. Lana Wood followed in her older sister's
footsteps to the bright spotlight of Hollywood where she landed several
film and TV roles.
Then in 1971, Lana got a crack at the Bond series with the film, Diamonds are Forever, portraying Plenty O'Toole. Wood continues to work in film as an actress and producer.
JILL ST. JOHN
Your DailyDish
Starring alongside Lana Wood in Diamonds are Forever, Jill St. John played Bond girl Tiffany Cas in the 1971 film.
St.
John, a Los Angeles, California native, began her acting career in the
1960's and continued to work through the 1990's, but never found another
big time role as she found in Diamonds are Forever. Diamonds might be forever, but an acting career isn't necessarily...
JANE SEYMOUR
Your DailyDish
One of the most recognizable faces
from the early years of the James Bond franchise, Jane Seymour made fan
boys fall in love with her as the sultry Soltaire, Bond's
flame-of-the-moment in Live and Let Die.
As many know, Seymour went on to a highly successful career in movies and television, with shows like Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman and film roles like, Wedding Crashers recently. Seymour has earned Emmy and Golden Globe Awards for her acting.
GLORIA HENDRY
Your DailyDish
Gloria Hendry made waves in the James
Bond franchise as the first African-American woman to play a Bond girl.
Hendry starred alongside Jane Seymour in Live and Let Die. She played a kickass, take no prisoners CIA agent named Rosie Carver.
Unfortunately, Hendry's role in Live and Let Die didn't carve a path into Hollywood stardom. She failed to land any other roles outside of the franchise.
MAUD ADAMS
Your DailyDish
After years of using European models
and actresses, then switching up to American-born leading Bond ladies
for several films, Swedish-born Maud Adams once again brought a European
flair back to the Bond series, twice!
Adams played a relatively small role, that of Andrea Anders in the famous 1974 Bond classic, The Man with the Golden Gun.
Then in 1983, she once again met James Bond on the big screen as the
title role, Octopussy in... yeah, you know what movie that's from.
BRITT EKLAND
Your DailyDish
Seems The Man with the Golden Gun was in need in plenty of Swedes as alongside Maud Adams was another Swedish-born actress, Britt Ekland.
Ekland
had a prominent acting career established before landing the role of
James Bond's assistant, Mary Goodnight, in the film, and that only
helped her go higher. Ekland continued to act until the 1990's.
BARBARA BACH
Your DailyDish
No relation to the famous musician, we
don't think. Bach grew up in Queens, New York, before a promising
modeling career caused her to drop out of school at 16.
Bach first
appeared in several European films before finally catching the eye of
one Bond producer and getting cast as Anya Amasova for the 1977 Bond
classic, The Spy Who Loved Me. That role probably helped her
catch the eye of one of her music contemporaries, Beatles member Ringo
Starr, who married Bach in 1981.
CAROLINE MUNRO
Your DailyDish
Munro had a hefty resume of films before joining the venerable list of Bond girls, but sultry swagger in The Spy Who Loved Me as the deadly Naomi stands out as one of the best Bond girls ever.
LOIS CHILES
Your DailyDish
Lois Chiles grew up in Texas where she
attended university and her good looks drew the attention of some
modeling agents. She began a successful modeling career in the early
70's that would lead her to small film parts... and then BIG ones!
She landed roles in The Great Gatsby along with Robert Redford and then Death on the Nile. These two films helped her land a role in the 1979 Bond film Moonraker, where she played Dr. Holly Goodhead... Um, shouldn't that be a name in Austin Powers or something?
CORINNE CLÉRY
Your DailyDish
Corinne Cléry is a French-born actress
who has had a remarkably successful career in Europe, starring in over
50 films and TV series, according to IMDB.
But her biggest claim to fame on this side of the Atlantic "pond" is her role in the 1979 James Bond film,Moonraker, where she played Corinne Dufour, an assistant to the movie's antagonist, Hugo Drax.
LYNN-HOLLY JOHNSON
Your DailyDish
Lynn-Holly Johnson grew up an aspiring
figure skater. She was so good, she would earn the Silver Medal at the
1974 U.S. Figure Skating Championship.
That notoriety would help Johnson transition into the world of acting. She was nominated for a 1978 Golden Globe for the film Ice Castles, which put her on the radar three years later to star as Bond girl Bibi Dahl in For Your Eyes Only. But her career never reached much higher after her role in the Bond series.
CAROLE BOUQUET
Your DailyDish
Carole Bouquet was originally born in
France and pursued modeling and acting from a young age. She's had a
long career in film, starring in over 40 movies and continuing to act
today.
She made her Bond girl debut alongside Lynn-Holly Johnson and Roger Moore in For Your Eyes Only as the deadly Melina Havelock.
ALISON DOODY
Your DailyDish
Alison Doody grew up in Dublin,
studying at a convent and taking a liking to the arts and eventually,
acting. Her dream came through in her feature film debut, A View To Kill as Jenny Flex.
Doody continues acting to this day and seemingly continues not to age. Wowza.
GRACE JONES
Your DailyDish
One of the most successful Bond girls,
Grace Jones has had a remarkable career in the United States after
moving there from Jamaica when she was just 13 years old.
Jones started as a wildly successful model at a young age, landing cover shoots for Elle, Vogue,
and many other brands before transitioning into a music career and then
into film when she starred with Arnold Schwarzenegger in Conan the Destroyer. She would get her shot at being a Bond girl in the 1985 film, A View to a Kill.
TANYA ROBERTS
Your DailyDish
Tanya Roberts was born and raised in
Bronx, New York, before moving shortly to Toronto, Canada, then finally
back to New York City where she began pursuing a fashion and modeling
career.
She would star in several small budget films, but then got a huge break getting a lead role in the famous TV series, Charlie's Angels. That role led to her getting her shot as a Bond girl in the 1985 film A View to a Kill as Stacey Sutton. Roberts would go on to lead a successful career in film and TV, most recently portraying Midge on That 70's Show.
MARYAM D'ABO
Your DailyDish
Maryam d'Abo is an English-born
actress who grew up aspiring to be on the Big Screen. She attended the
Drama Center London to study acting and also modeled on the side.
D'Abo would make a splash in the Bond series when she landed a role as Kara Milovy in the 1987 thriller The Living Daylights. She would also help co-write the book, Bond Girls are Forever, a tribute book to all the women who portrayed Bond girls through the years.
CAREY LOWELL
Your DailyDish
Carey Lowell was quite worldly before
her Bond days. Her family traveled often when Lowell was young, but
would eventually wind up in Colorado. Lowell would attend college at the
University of Colorado, Boulder, where she would study Literature.
After, she would pursue a modeling career in New York City.
Her big break came when she was a cast as Pam Bouvier, a CIA agent who teams up with Bond in the 1989 film,License to Kill. After that, Lowell would star as Jamie Ross on Law & Order.
TALISA SOTO
Your DailyDish
Soto grew up in Brooklyn, New York, to
a Puerto Rican family, and like others on this list, she found instant
fame after landing a role opposite James Bond in License to Kill.
Today, she's married to Benjamin Bratt.
FAMKE JANSSEN
Your DailyDish
This Bond girl needs little introduction. Since her big breakthrough role in 1995's Goldeneye
alongside Pierce Brosnan, where she portrayed Xenia Onatopp, Dutch-born
Janssen has gone on to an unbelievable acting and modeling career.
She's been "cover girl" on 100's of magazines and landed huge roles in the X-Men film franchise as well as theTaken movies. I mean, just looking at these pictures, does this woman age at all?
IZABELLA SCORUPCO
Your DailyDish
Izabella Scorupco is a European
actress, model, and singer of mixed Polish/Swedish decent. She began in
the 1980's as a fashion model where she would eventually land a cover
shoot for Vogue magazine. From there, she pursued a life-long
dream of being a singer, forming a pop group that would record a
gold-certified record in Sweden.
Her notoriety would help land her a role in the smash hit Goldeneye, where she played Natalya Simonova, alongside Pierce Brosnan and Famke Janssen.
TERI HATCHER
Your DailyDish
Teri Hatcher is another Bond girl who
has gone on to tremendous success outside of her role in the Bond
series, where she starred opposite Pierce Brosnan in Tomorrow Never Dies as Paris Carver.
Hatcher has spent the last several decades in the spotlight, from her days before Bond on the hit show Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, to her highly memorable "They're real and they're spectacular," role in Seinfeld, and finally to her Golden Globe-winning performance in Desperate Housewives.
MICHELLE YEOH
Your DailyDish
Michelle Yeoh was a huge success in
Asia throughout most of the 1990's starring in some of China's biggest
box office movies at the time. Her kick-ass style in many martial arts
action films helped land her as a Bond girl in 1997's Tomorrow Never Dies.
But Yeoh wasn't done there. She'd eventually land the lead role in 2000's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, the Academy Award-winning film for which Yeoh was also nominated for a BAFTA Best Actress Award.
CECILIE THOMSEN
Your DailyDish
Thomsen hails from the Netherlands and
pursued acting from a young age. Of course, there's nothing like a good
Bond movie to blast open the doors to stardom for any aspiring actress.
While
it may be easy to overlook anybody starring opposite Teri Hatcher or
Michelle Yeoh, Thomsen deserves some credit as the sexy Professor Inga
Bergstorm in Tomorrow Never Dies.
SERENA SCOTT THOMAS
Your DailyDish
Serena Scott Thomas was born in
England and spent her early years in several small roles overseas.
Eventually, she managed to catch the eye of the casting director for a
new Bond film.
That film was 1999's The World is Not Enough,
where she played Dr. Molly Warmflash along with Pierce Brosnan. Thomas
has continued to act and you can see her most recently in Inherent Vice.
SOPHIE MARCEAU
Your DailyDish
Marceau is a French-born actress who
has enjoyed huge success starring in roles in Europe for over three
decades. As a young star, she quickly gained notoriety and that led to
her role as Elektra King in the James Bond film, The World is Not Enough.
Marceau would continue to land huge roles, most notably in the Oscar-winning Mel Gibson film Braveheartand alongside Robin Williams in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Still, she prefers to act in French films over American ones.
DENISE RICHARDS
Your DailyDish
Denise Richards is probably known more
these days as the ex-wife of sociopath Charlie Sheen (dude gone nuts,
folks), but Richards enjoyed several years as one of Hollywood's hottest
actresses, both work wise and "good lord she is hot" wise.
Richards starred in several big name films through the years, including Starship Troopers, Wild Things, and even some famous TV shows, like Seinfeld and Melrose Place, but everybody remembers her turn as a Bond girl in The World is Not Enough as Christmas Jones. That's one present I definitely wouldn't mind waking up to every Christmas. Hell, every day.
MARIA GRAZIA CUCINOTTA
Your DailyDish
We thought three Bond girls from one movie was probably a little overkill, but there was no way we could let "Cigar Girl" from Tomorrow Never Dies slip past you.
Cucinotta
has worked steadily in Italian cinema since the early 1990's and it's
pretty clear why anyone would flock to the cinema to lay eyes on her.
ROSAMUND PIKE
Your DailyDish
She probably looks very familiar to a lot of people now, but back in 2002 when Die Another Day premiered, Pike was a little-known star.
But
her turn as Miranda Frost would only be the beginning for this actress
who has had a long career in Hollywood and earned rave reviews last year
for her role in the psychological thriller, Gone Girl.
HALLE BERRY
Your DailyDish
It's the one you've all been waiting
for. Each Bond girl has her own memorable entrance for sure, but Halle
Berry coming out of the ocean is perhaps the most memorable Bond girl
scene from all 24 movies.
Do you need any more information on Halle Berry? No. OK, here's the GIF then.
EVA GREEN
Your DailyDish
Casino Royale became this young starlet's fourth major role, but has since helped send her career into the stratosphere.
Green played Morgan on the short-lived
Camelot series in 2011, but found more stardom in 2014 on the cult show,
Penny Dreadfu
